Getting started
Do I need months of data before MARJYN becomes useful?
No. Your first completed job gives you a useful view of what happened. Add reliable previous work for a faster start, or begin with your next job. The picture becomes stronger as comparable completed work accumulates.
How many previous jobs should I add?
Five to ten reliable recent jobs is a useful starting point, but there is no minimum. Accurate actual figures matter more than quantity.
Can I add jobs I completed before joining MARJYN?
Yes. Add the real completion date, final revenue, costs and owner time. If you also have a reliable original estimate, you can add that too — but it is not required for the job to contribute to general learning.
Using MARJYN
Do I need to understand accounting?
No. MARJYN uses plain commercial language. You add the work, time and costs you already know; MARJYN helps you understand what they mean together.
Is MARJYN accounting software?
No. Your accounts record the business. MARJYN helps you understand the economics of individual jobs, work types and customers so you can make better commercial decisions.
Does MARJYN replace my accountant or bookkeeper?
No. It works alongside your existing financial records. It does not prepare statutory accounts, file tax returns or replace professional advice.
Your kind of business
What if I subcontract most of my work?
That is useful evidence. MARJYN separates subcontractor costs from your own time so you can understand both what the job made and how much owner capacity it used.
What if I do most of the work myself?
MARJYN shows whether the job result justifies the amount of your time it consumed and lets you compare that recorded return with other completed work.
Who is MARJYN for?
Self-employed tradespeople, owner-operated trade businesses and small contractors — including businesses that deliver work themselves, mix employees and subcontractors, or subcontract much of delivery.
Data and effort
What do I need to record?
For each job, record the price or final revenue, relevant labour and job costs, your own delivery time and the completion date. Use figures you can support rather than guesses.
Why does MARJYN need my actual results?
Estimates tell MARJYN what you thought would happen. Actuals tell it what did happen. That difference is where the learning comes from.
Pricing
How does the introductory month work?
Your first 15 days are £0. If you continue, £6.25 is charged on day 16 for days 16–30. Monthly billing of £24.99 begins after the introductory month.
Do I need a card to start?
Yes. A card is required at registration, but nothing is charged when you start.
Can I cancel?
Yes. Cancel during days 1–15 and pay nothing. Cancel during days 16–30 to prevent conversion to the £24.99 monthly plan; access continues through the introductory period. After monthly billing begins, cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period. Annual terms will be shown before you confirm an annual plan.
Business use and tax
